Notes Collaboration on the iPad and iPhone

There are note takings, then there are collaboration note takings. Take notes, collaborate, discuss, make comments, and contribute to the idea of your notes. This is more than Evernote can do. It’s also free, and there are two apps that can do this the best. One is similar to Pinterest while the other is similar to task manager but with notes capability. What’s the difference between the two?I’ve just starting to use the two programs that I think is useful, free and easy to use. The two apps I found is Springpad (iTunes Link) and Catch (iTunes Link).

There is a catch with the Catch app (no pun intended) and that is, you have to buy spaces in order for you to create extra Space. Extra Space can be purchase through the in-app purchases. If all you need is just one space, which can do one subject of a project or notes, then you’ll be ok with Catch. But if you have multiple projects that needs it’s own Space names, then you have to buy the in app-purchase.

With Springpad on the other hand, you don’t need the extra money to buy anything else. It just works. Better than Evernote actually. So what’s the difference between Springpad and Evernote? You can share as well with Evernote, but the people you share with can only view them and create new notes within the same Notebook. However, in Evernote, you can’t edit the existing notes. Thus comes Springpad, where true collaboration exist.

Catch can do the same as Springpad, except I find Catch to be less buggy than Springpad. At the moment, I use Springpad. The buggy part for Springpad as of this writing is the ability to login to Facebook. Sometimes it says you are login with Facebook, but you’re not actually logged in. Even worst is that you’re not even registered with Facebook as a user. So I have to register manually with my own Email and Password and do the whole verification thing via Email.

After you verify via Email, you can login to Springpad and there you will be represented with their home screen. Which is filled with notes that is share publicly. With Springpad, you can share your stuff publicly just like Evernote. Since I was looking for a collaboration app for my iPad and iPhone, I found the two Springpad and Catch. I have decided to go with Springpad because just like Catch, the app is free. One advantage over those with paid apps is that my co-worker can work together without initially paying for the cost of the app. It is also available for both the iPhone and iPad, so it’s a Universal app and that is a plus for me because then I can always add notes in my iPhone or iPad rather than just in one device.

Both Catch and Springpad are fast when it comes to syncing notes from your peers. So you don’t have to wait, even over the Cellular network. Depends on the connection of course, but I find it to be pretty good when it comes to sharing and collaborating. The difference between Evernote and Springpad is that Springpad saves them offline. Unlike Evernote, you have to keep fetching the notes over the Data Network, which means with Evernote, you have to have either Wi-Fi or Cellular coverage. We are comparing Evernote free service to Springpad. The Evernote Premium can do offline notes.

Just like Evernote, you can also install Web Clipper for the iPad, iPhone or your internet browser so you can save pages later to read later Offline. Read more at Springpad.com and I believe Springpad will be the future of Social Note Taking slash Collaboration slash Sharing. Like Facebook but for notes.

Give both a try and see which one you like because any of the two above are good for notes collaboration.
